Melon Pan is Japanese sweet Bun with crisp cookie crust on top.This combination gives melon pan a unique texture and taste.Because of the bun‘s apperance resumbles the shape of rock melon it is called melon pan.

Melon Pan Japanese sweet Bun

Ingredients Required:

For Cookie Crust:

  • Butter – 25 gm
  • Powder/Caster sugar – 50 gm
  • Refined Flour – 100 gm
  • Whole egg – 1/2 no
  • Vanilla Essence – 3 ml

For Melon pan Dough:

  • Flour – 200 gm
  • Sugar – 35 gm
  • Instant dry yeast – 4 gm
  • Salt – 4 gm
  • Whole egg – 1/2 no
  • Butter – 30 gm
  • Milk – To Mix

Melon Pan Japanese sweet Bun Method:

1.To prepare the cookie dough add together butter,powder sugar and flour.Bring them together using rub in method- rub between fingers- till they form a crumble.

2.Now mix the egg and vanilla essence , combine them gently.Do not over mix it.Refrigerate the prepared cookie dough.

3.Activate the yeast by adding a pinch of sugar and luke warm water.Sieve the flour.

4.Mix sugar and salt with the flour.Make a well in the well and add activated yeast.Now also add egg and half the milk and start combining the dough.

5.Once done add butter and knead.After the butter has been incorporated add the rest of the milk and knead well to develope the gluten.Now allow the dough to rest(Bulk Fermentation).

6.Once the dough has rested enough ,give knockback and cut into 60 gm pieces each.Roll them into balls.

7.Take out the cookie dough and divide into 40 gm pieces each.Roll them and take one piece at a time and roll into a round sheet or press in the palm of your hand to make round sheet.

8.Apply this sheeted cookie dough on top of bread roll and gently roll it.Do the same for the rest of the bread rolls.Once done allow the rolls to ferment.

9.After fermentation bake in the oven at 220c for about 15 minutes depending on the oven.Cool the bread rolls before serving.
